Three Philosophers. This beer is amazing. With 98% ale, and 2% ale with cherries, this QUADRUPLE Belgian-style ale is so, so good. It is great right out of the fridge, and gets even better as it warms up a little and you get drunker.

At $9 for a 22-ouncer at my local, it’s a bargain; but at 9.8% ABV you’ll want a partner unless you want to get MEGAdrunkz0rz.

But treat yourself well and drink it out of a goblet. Don’t use a 12-oz drinking glass, because the resulting smell tunnel is kind of gross.

    Legend Oktoberfest

Just finished my first Legend Oktoberfest of the season. The first tastes were very good, but the flavors were overwhelmed by the jalapeƱos on our Merry Mex pizza from Superstars.

But, like the sign of any good beer, I am now relaxing with the cozy warm blanket feeling of beer. I will drink more of this beer.

One word: quaffable. Beefy and Ailurokat got me two bottles of this, and it’s quite lovely. This is a tasty Oktoberefest, with a mild carmel note and a bit of copper flavor under a light body. It has a beautiful dark brown color, but the color looks darker than the taste (think more like Negro Modelo Especial, less like Guinness in terms of color telegraphing taste).

One confusing thing, which perhaps a Richmond resident can look into, it says “Amber Lager” on the label (in tiny text). I would be interested in the story behind that.

    Bosca Peach Sparkletini by Verdi

This peach flavored sparkling malt beverage was the perfect compliment to our dinner of burritos from Dos Amigos, our neighborhood version of Chipotle. The “natural flavors” imparted the excellent cough syrupy finish that completes the integrity of a such a libation. When you want some Boone’s, but you’re too old to drink it now, I recommend this delicious drink.

    Founders Nemesis

What do you do when you just put a cranky three year old to bed and you are facing a kitchen full of dirty dishes? Why drink the Founders Nemesis wheat wine you’ve been saving.

Oh my god this beer is good. The bourbon flavor is amazing; it and the maple counteract any overwhelming alcohol taste. And the smell… the smell is bourbony and good. It also has a nice thick finish that keeps the flavor with you, but it’s still a wheat and is refreshing on a summer evening. If you like scotch, you’ll love this beer.

I drank half the bottle right away without regard to the ABV and boy did it hit me. No need for muscle relaxers for my disk injury tonight. This beer actually warmed up well, so you don’t have to drink it as fast as I did. I thought I would have to split this beer with someone, but if you are done for the evening this is a great beer to drink on your own.

    Drink this beer.

Tonight was a well deserved Legend Golden IPA. Perfect for dinner at home in Richmond without zonking me out so I can’t help get the kids to bed. There’s also one more can of Monk’s Blood in the fridge waiting for a night where I will just let the kids roam feral in the backyard.

I’m drinking Samuel Adams Winter Lager in Atlanta airport. It is spicy and comforting and delicious. Airport beer always tastes amazing, like the cheese you eat at the apex of your mountain hike.

A burger is coming for an early dinner; I’m sure it will pair nicely. It doesn’t really matter though as nothing further is needed when you have a good beer after a long day on your feet.

Tonight was Budweiser at Fuddruckers. Talk about the right beer for the right situation. Tasty artificial cheese-like sauce, on MSG’D fries complemented he King of Beers nicely. Don’t get me wrong, Bud is good extremely light lager.

Allagash White. A nice beer full of spices from the other Portland. Good with a baked Russet potato and steamed brocolli.
